Frequently Asked Questions

Electrolysis

What is Electrolysis ?

Electrolysis is the only FDA approved form of permanent hair removal. It targets the hair follicle and dermal papilla (not pigment) to destroy it, resulting in permanent hair removal.

The process consists of inserting a probe in the hair follicle, applying current to the follicle to detach and destroy the follicle, followed by the hair being extracted from the follicle.

Electrolysis VS Laser

Electrolysis is permanent hair removal

V.S

Laser is hair reduction.

Electrolysis permanently destroys the follicle so regrowth will not happen in treated follicles even with hormonal changes

V.S

Laser reduces hair growth by causing restructuring and some damage to the hairs. Hormonal changes can result in the return of previously reduced hairs.

Laser targets pigment in the hair, so it cannot detect all pigments like white, blondes, and reds.

V.S

Electrolysis targets the hair follicle, so hair color and skin color are not crucial for best results, making it effective on all hair and skin colors.

How long does the hair need to be prior to treatment?

We recommend 3-5 days of growth to ensure it is long enough to see the growth angle and to be able to remove the hair after current is applied.

How many treatments do I need?

Multiple treatments are needed to complete removal and permanency due to different growth cycles and how much hair there is. Less hair generally means less treatments are needed as long as hairs are treated in the anagen stage.

Hair in the anagen stage (active growth stage), is the ideal stage for removal, resulting in the best treatment of that hair follicle.

Is it painful?

The treatment can cause minor sensitivity during treatment. People describe it as a poke or slight sting. The insertion of the probe is not generally felt, but the current can be noticeable depending on the area and tolerance of client.

Electrolysis Post Treatment Care

-Don't pick or touch the treated area

-Keep the area clean and dry

-Stay hydrated

-No waxing or tweezing between appointments

24-48 hours after:

-if needed, apply a cool compress to soothe inflammation

-avoid applying product to the treated areas

-avoid excess heat, sweating, exercise, hot tubs, and saunas

-avoid sun exposure and wear protection

1st Week:

-Clean area with a gentle cleanser and be cautious of sun exposure.
